Is this keyboard difficult to swap?
The EliteBook 1040 G4 is a precision-engineered replacement. As a “frameless” keyboard, it requires the removal of several internal components to access the mounting points from the underside of the palm rest. We recommend professional installation for users who are not comfortable with deep chassis disassembly (in case you do not have access to any, we can recommend a few qualified technicians).
Can I install this non-backlit unit if my laptop was originally backlit?
Yes, it will seat into the chassis perfectly and all typing functions will be identical.
How do I protect the keys during daily travel?
Since the 1040 G4 is often used as a mobile workhorse, we suggest using a thin microfiber sheet between the keyboard and screen when the lid is closed to prevent long-term friction marks on the display glass.
